Getting an optimal nutrition even when normal feeding is not possible
Sometimes when a patient cannot eat because of an illness, surgery or any other situation, nutrition may be provided enterally through a feeding tube, or parenterally, directly into the veins in case the digestive tract cannot be used .
There are a lot of settings and configurations to provide the nutrients the patient needs, it all depends on their condition and expected results after the procedure.
Our Registered Nurses will make sure the patient gets all the nutrients required to reset and keep an optimal nutrition condition and health.
Make sure your condition does not prevent you from getting properly fed
There are many situations where a person should use enteral or parenteral nutrition and they all come from the same basic need.
People need to eat in a regular basis to stay in a good healthy state, but mainly to stay alive. Sometimes the regular way to eat fails, and that is when you need to come to us for this service in order to get the nutrients your body requires for your daily activities or recovery.
Here is a list possible situations where you should call us to receive the proper care and nutrition you need:
When you are too ill that you cannot eat by yourself.
Part of your digestive system is not working well, like your stomach or gut.
When you had a surgery that affected your digestive system, including your mouth all the way to your intestines.
You are having Nutrition Therapy or High Tech Therapy and your therapist prescribes it as part of your care plan.
Whatever the case, our Registered Nurses will take care of your enteral or parenteral nutrition while you get back to your regular life.
Get the nutrition you need from our caring Registered Nurses
Once our nurses have determined the right dosage and nutrients according to your therapy, condition and limitations, nutrition will be provided in one of the two settings below:
Enteral nutrition
Used to deliver nutrients directly to a specific area of the digestive track, like the stomach or the beginning of the intestines. A feeding tube is placed from the nose all the way to the area of delivery, and in some occasions when the patient cannot swallow, the feeding tube is inserted from the abdominal walls.
Parenteral nutrition
Nutrients are directly delivered to the vein into the blood flow, also known as IV or intravenous nutrition. A catheter or feeding tube with a needle is inserted into the vain, providing the nutrients to restore and maintain a good nutrition.
